U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force Arrest Suspect Sought in NJ Transit Hammer Attack
Newark, NJ / April 02, 2026 – U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force have arrested a suspect in connection with a violent assault in which a man was struck with a hammer and seriously injured aboard a NJ Transit Train at the MLK Light Rail Station in Jersey City.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene and was subsequently identified as Anthony Robinson, 29, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
After a month-long search, Robinson was located and arrested this morning by a team of U.S. Marshals and NJ Transit Police at the Booker T. Washington Houses in Jersey City. He is facing charges for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
“This was a deliberate act of violence that posed a serious threat to public safety, to the victim and every commuter,” said Nicholas Ricigliano, Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of New Jersey. “Let this arrest serve as a clear message that individuals who commit violent crimes and attempt to evade justice will be relentlessly pursued and brought into custody.”

The success of U.S. Marshals task force initiatives, combined with the outstanding relationships forged with other law enforcement agencies, has led to the formation of permanent fugitive task forces, as well as ad-hoc task forces in response to unique cases that pose immediate threat to the public. In 2025, U.S. Marshals Service-led fugitive task forces arrested over 73,000 federal, state and local fugitives and cleared nearly 88,000 warrants.
