Nathan Loyd Ndungu Urges Business Leaders to Embrace Purpose-Led Growth
Agribusiness CEO and Author Advocates for Ethical Expansion, Farmer Empowerment, and a Historic U.S. Launch
WASHINGTON, DC / ACCESS Newswire / August 13, 2025 /Nathan Loyd Ndungu, CEO of Avoveg Health and founder of Loyd Global Consulting, is calling on entrepreneurs and business leaders to rethink how they define success. In his recent feature interview titled "Nathan Loyd Ndungu: From Setbacks to Global Agribusiness Leader," Ndungu shares his journey from failed real estate ventures to building one of Kenya 's top 10 avocado export companies.
Through his experiences, he 's developed a message that goes beyond business: growth must serve people, not just numbers.
"We 're not just shipping fruit. We 're building systems that raise incomes and improve quality of life," says Ndungu.
The Global Reality: Small Farmers, Big Barriers
Small-scale farmers supply over 70% of the world 's food, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), yet many live in poverty due to unstable markets, limited training, and lack of access to buyers. In Kenya, over 70% of the agricultural workforce is composed of smallholder farmers, many of whom are disconnected from global trade systems.
Avoveg Health Kenya Ltd, Ndungu 's agribusiness company, is working to change that. The company provides farmer training, fair pricing, and reliable global export channels. But the problem, Ndungu warns, is far larger than one company can solve.
"Small producers need a voice. They need tools, not just hope," he explains. "If we want real change, we need to rewire how we think about trade and growth."
A Historic Leap: From Kenyan Farms to American Table Tops
Now, that vision is taking root in the United States.
Avoveg Health has officially set foot in the U.S. with the launch of a new headquarters and production plant in Michigan, marking a historic first for any company from Kenya or East Africa to export and operate a value-added facility on American soil.
The Michigan hub will handle guacamole packaging and avocado oil bottling, transforming fresh avocados from Kenya 's rich organic soils into premium, consumer-ready products for U.S. supermarket shelves.
"This is about more than market entry," says Ndungu. "It 's about creating global equity-from Kenyan farms to American homes. We are proud to be the bridge."
With U.S. supermarket partnerships on the horizon, this move represents a new chapter in ethical agribusiness expansion-one where sustainability, dignity, and value-add all converge in a bold new model of trade.
The Personal Story Behind the Mission
Ndungu 's journey wasn 't smooth. After a financial collapse at his former real estate firm in Rwanda, he had to start over. That failure led to his pivot into agriculture and his eventual founding of Avoveg.
"Failure is not a full stop. It 's just a new paragraph," he says.
He wrote about the experience in his book My Successful Failures, where he explains how setbacks helped him build a more sustainable, values-driven business model.
Now Is the Time for Purpose-Driven Leadership
In the press surrounding the spotlight article, Ndungu is using his platform to advocate for a shift in mindset across industries:
Build ethical supply chains.
"People want traceability. They want to know their food was sourced with dignity."Mentor and uplift others.
"Leadership is not about being the loudest voice. It 's about listening, guiding, and multiplying success."Define success by impact.
"Revenue matters. But so does how many lives you help in the process."
Ndungu believes that if more companies adopted this mindset, industries like agriculture, trade, and consulting could become powerful engines for equity.
Take Small Actions With Big Impact
Nathan Loyd Ndungu is not asking people to start agribusinesses or write books. Instead, his call to action is simple:
"Ask yourself-who is this helping? Whether you 're closing a deal, starting a project, or building a brand, make sure it adds value to more than just your bottom line."
Here 's what he suggests:
Support local farmers and fair-trade products when possible.
Mentor one person in your industry. Share your journey.
Turn failure into learning. Don 't hide from it-lead with it.
Use your career to serve a greater purpose. Think bigger than yourself.
"True success is building something that helps others grow long after you 're gone."
