Federated States of Micronesia Uses Block Grant Funding To Create One-Stop Shops for Diabetes Care
In Kosrae, one of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), one in three people has diabetes-a medical condition that can result in serious health complications, including heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, and foot and leg amputation. With funding from the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant, FSM supported the Kosrae State Health Department in establishing One-Stop Shops. These clinics help improve healthcare and quality of life for residents with diabetes by providing yearly check-ups, screening tests, dental services, annual vaccinations, counseling for managing diabetes, and ongoing care for foot and eye problems associated with the disease.
